Of course White Bread is ignoring the fact that a Darkie originally wrote and recorded the fucking song in 1956.

what musician has played for the most number of people over their career? This came up as a little side thought on the 'grateful thread' (thread about the grateful dead) where someone (not me, tho Im thinking it may be correct) proposed that Bob Weir has played live for the most number of people over his lifetime compared to any other musician. let's put aside for now the thought that 'well, its the same ten thousand deadheads who go from concert to concert' (even to the extent that may be partially correct, that's true of fans of lots of different musical acts. There's certainly many working musicians (lots of jazz and blues folks, for example) who played consistently 150 concerts a year for say 40 years, but probably other then big festivals, the average size of an audience was much smaller. Big stadium acts like the Rolling Stones, McCartney, etc. play to maybe 15,000-30,000 people for each show, but those acts usually only go out on tour every few years. (and there were long periods , say, in the 80's when the stones didnt tour (after 82 and before 89, i think?) (and same with McCartney?) Elton John has toured somewhat consistently, tho not every year, i think? then there's Bob Dylan- probably between 80 and 110 shows a year consistently from 1988 thru 2019, and maybe 30 or 40 shows a year in the last two years too-- usually smaller audiences then say a large stadium, but larger then the average jazz club by a lot. so he'd maybe be in the running? (and of course add in those big tours in 1974, rolling thunder in 75-6, world tour in 78, and stuff from earlier , etc) I go back to Bob Weir- the Grateful Dead did something like over 2000 shows from 1966-95, and he's consistently toured in the 28 years since that- most recently in both dead and co, who play stadiums, and weir and wolf bros who play theaters, etc. so maybe him? or maybe 'if any person in a band, bob weir, but if you're talking the headliners, bob dylan? any other likely candidates? i know, a somewhat silly topic, but interesting at least to some of us... unique people or in case of the "Dead" the same folks over and over again? Did not Bob Weir just play for the same people over and over again:) I think we can crown Bob Weir the King of playing for the same 10000 people over and over and over again.

It's always the Guinness Book of World Records type of thinking with these guys - the lists, the comparisons, the superlatives, what's the most this, the best that, the worst that etc. Today I'm calling it "calculator brain." Imagine there's a part of our brains that is just meant to do simple math. Imagine using just that part, but for everything in life. "If Bob Weir did 65 shows a year for 30 years, playing for an average of 7000 people, how much has the cost of an eighth of mushrooms gone up outside the venue?" It's like every other conversation is the equivalent of hitting "less than" or "equal than" buttons.

It also was the first of a planned series of concerts to be performed exclusively at All-Boys schools, which was an idea hatched by Brian Epstein. But after this particular gig, the Fabs realized that knee-tremblers would never be the same again, and so they told Brian that they would not continue with any more All-Boys shows....

It's probably my fault for even looking, but the Amazon deals thread is like open mic night at the Improv.

Worst Drop off in Live Show With Replacement Band MembersI was thinking of this when remembering seeing Slayer live in 1987 without Dave Lombardo, one of the best, if not the best, heavy metal drummer of all time. His replacement was unable to nail Dave's double bass drum fill in "Angel of Death", one of the most iconic drum fills of all time. The entire performance was so weak, especially considering they were touring behind Reign in Blood, which was an immediate all time classic as soon as it was released. Another huge dropoff was when David Lee Roth toured behind Skyscraper, and on bass was Matt Bissonette instead of the legendary Billy Sheehan. The drop off was like going from a Ferrari to a Ford Taurus. So bland and lacking in spark. Any others? Not to make a pun out of it but it sounds like when very drunk Replacements replaced the Replacements the quality of their shows went really south. Some might say the worst live shows were performed by all Replacements members. I talked with a guy once who claimed he'd seen a Replacements soundcheck where they were the tighest band he ever saw, but by the time of the show they were so drunk they couldn't get through a cover of "Taking Care Of Business." (The guy who told me that was a drinker too though, I think.) Lots of Replacements shows dropped off (or improved, depending on your taste for half assed 70's covers) as band members became more inebriated.

I've been guilty of winding up Beatles fans by talking about how much I love Let It Be, referring to songs on the Replacements album. I guess I need to report myself to the "Unleash your inner SHite" thread.

HUGH O'BRIAN's real last name is horrible. 'Krampe', eh? Imagine the jokes made at his expense . . . "Hey, Hugh, are you sure you're not a girl? Cuz, like, yer a Huge Cramp!"
