On the old SC I got told about double-blind tests proving that hi-res digital is bs. I just took it as given there was a sound upgrade, but luckily since I'm not an "audiophile" I had never actually invested in any gear or re-purchased music.

Come to think of it, SC really spotlighted what a douche Hoofy himself is. I gravitated here due to hatred of the Gorts and alt-SHiters more than Steve-o.

Ditto, though Hoofy is bad enough but the Gorts and the people who post there made me realize how pathetic people and their music are. I totally get if you buy a cd or album and it sounds bad being disappointed, or it’s scratched, I get it. But attacking people who think it sounds good to them, or attacking them over the kind of equipment they use? Pathetic. Very few seems to think that maybe people are either happy with what they have and/or what they have is all their budgets can afford because they also have a life to live and pay bills, eat, etc. and the world does not revolve around cee dees and el pees.

For me, SC is a pressure-relief valve.
Without it, I would have gotten myself banned over there years ago.
To answer the OP, I've learned that Hoffman is a lying scumbucket who fully deserves all the ridicule we slather on him.
I've learned that the moderators over there are thin-skinned thugs who get erections whenever given the chance to throw their weight around and chastise others.
But, I suppose the biggest thing I've learned is that audiophilia is a disease, and those affected by inevitably become boorish assholes.

I used to like to go ask if I had a question about something but I once asked about a record player. That released the scorn and I was told by someone there that until I learn the proper term - a record player is what children use, turntables are what serious adults use and “you want us to take you seriously, correct? Then use the proper terms.” - and that turned me off so much. I was then told that if didn’t have the funds to play in the big leagues I shouldn’t be searching for recommendations for the best player. As said above that is when I discovered what a disease audiophile is. That is also when I was reported because I told the member who said that to shove it up their ass. Apparently being a dick and being critical over a simple mistake is allowed, but a response is not. That is when I doscovered what a bunch of self serving fucks the gorts are, and I started to see what a cum bucket Hoofy really is. Then I found this forum and I can realize I am not alone.

Then they'll claim that sort of behavior never, ever happens there. They're always the victims and never the pretentious asses antagonizing newbies because audiofoolia is the only aspect in life where they have some kind of expertise. They'll starve to death in a gutter because they spent their last dime on The Monkees, but damnit, they're better than you because they have SUTs and turntables.

Threads like that are great because they give Grant another opportunity to complain about how nobody talks about the sound anymore. Why don't newer members understand this is supposed to be a place where we talk about the sound!

I've learned plenty (some of it I didn't want to know) from both this version and the old SC. I was able to see this, which changed my entire outlook on SHTV microdynamiks.blogspot.com/

The tone of my poats over there definitely changed after I discovered Stereo Central.

I learned that we lost Ronnie Gallagher 23 years ago, and that you can be a Nazi, a convicted child abuser, a dog torturer and a waifu-jizzing psychoporker on the Hoffman forum, but you can't say 'record player'.

I just took it as given there was a sound upgrade, but luckily since I'm not an "audiophile" I had never actually invested in any gear or re-purchased music. Double blind tests are useful for determining if someone can hear the difference between 16 bit and 24 bit (I'm not convinced I could). But double blind tests are pointless for sample rate. It's a proven fact that 44.1 kHz playback is fast enough to reproduce all frequencies that humans are capable of hearing. Anybody who claims to be able to hear the difference between 44.1 and anything higher than that is truly an idiot. High res audio is useful for archiving tapes and any kind of digital editing. That's about it. Unless you're doing studio work, anything above 44.1/24 is objectively pointless.

I always took the forum as a vanity project for Hoofy anyway, but after reading this and the posts here on other things it has almost totally turned me off. Occasionally I go through posts and find something that interests me, but since finding this website I have become more snarky. After reading this link this morning mentioned above this morning it had left a sour taste in my mouth. I don’t even know now if I even want to go back anymore, except to make fun of the idiots there.
