Why do fans tolerate these bands that won't let key members rejoin?
**I did not include Pink Floyd because Roger and David do not want to reform and perform together, it looks mutual.
It's a different scenario with Styx, Grand Funk and Yes.
As long as these "Styx fans" keep going to the shows the current Styx lineup is selling they aren't going to feel a need to put Dennis De Young back in the band.
If they had trouble selling tix they would invite him back as asap!
Same with Steve Howe's Yes , Rick and Jon would be back tomorrow if Steve Howe couldn't sell tickets.
Grand Funk Railroad too.
The problem IS the so called fans.
They don't stand up for what's right and they keep supporting these cover band lineups, and I don't think most of them even care (or know) at all.
But they should, because your being sold a bogus product.
And I think...hell I know that standing up and boycotting these shows would force the issue in a positive direction.
Those lead singer fill ins for Yes and Styx are questionable at best.... and a full step down in talent and ability and more importantly have no authenticity.
The Grand Funk situation is just ridiculous and ugly.
All because some members of these bands put their ego before their adoring fans.
The very fans that made them!
A person I work with told she he saw Foghat last summer, I told her you saw a band calling themselves Foghat and covering Foghat songs but....
you did not see the band Foghat.
Now I can forgive Roger Earl for wanting to carry on without his deceased/retired band mates, what choice does he have?
He probably needs to continue to make an income....totally understandable that he needs to use the Foghat brand to sell tix.
But Yes, Grand Funk and Styx are different, these situations could be resolved....but they can't be asked to be professional enough to put aside personality issues and pride/ego and simply go out and perform on stage together for 2 hours!??
Bulls**t, I work with people all the time that I would never want to hang out with,or don't particularly like. But it's our job, and we are professionals and don't let our personalities or our beliefs affect our performance at work.
Gigantic ego's go unchecked in the entertainment biz because people keep buying the tickets and don't hold these "artists" accountable.
As for myself, I refuse to go see these bands until they grow up and consider the fans and give me some semblance of an authentic lineup.
I would ask that everyone do the same and this nonsense would end real fast.
Fans standup!
And demand these guys act like professionals and return the same loyalty you have shown them over the last 40 years.
Want to control a band ? Start one.
D.D.
The whole point of my thread was you have a vote, everytime you buy or don't buy a ticket you voted.
By the way, your response was so smug and condescending it was quite disappointing.
It’s the free market but that doesn’t make it ethical.
Why not be a professional and put the best and most authentic product on the stage? Or simply call it what it is.......a tribute band.

When you purchased a piece of music or ticket or a t-shirt from a band, that did not make you a shareholder. You do not have a vote in how they conduct their affairs. You have received something in exchange for your money. That is the transaction. And it is complete.Want to control a band ? Start one.

If you trade on a famous name you owe the public something. At least if you have any scruples.colgems1966 said:
You’re vastly overestimating the audience. Much of it made up of lookie loos going there to attend an event and party. A lot of these people have no idea who was in the band and only know the hits. Who ends up getting hurt are the serious fans who actually care. It’s the free market but that doesn’t make it ethical.

Which boils down to them asking for your hard earned money while they put their needs above those of the fans. Why not be a professional and put the best and most authentic product on the stage? Or simply call it what it is.......a tribute band.
