I've poste the following review on the Facebook link on Bruces site, it won't make a blind bit of difference but I had to get it off my chest.... This wonderful show has been ruined due to the appalling mastering job by Adam Ayan. Why oh why did he have to dynamically compress the hell out of it? I guess it'll be fine for those who only ever listen through earbuds on an mp3 player, sadly though, for those of us who enjoy our music played through a decent hi-fi system it is quite frankly to fatiguing and actually unlistenable because of it. The exact same treatment was given to the Tower "Tower Theatre 75", that too is unlistanable for exactly the same reasons. I paid exatra to buy this show in HD 24/192 because of it being a classic performance, sadly due to the lousy mastering job I've just wasted £20 for something I'll never listen to again, despite its flaws I'll continue listening to boot instead. I just finished listening to the Roxy show, and it sounds wonderful to me. I guess I should feel fortunate. If you find this recording "completely unlistenable," maybe a Spyro Gyra LP might be more your speed. There's no need to be insulting. Also if you are going to comment on sound quality, kindly fill out your equipment profile as per our hosts request and as set out in our forum rules, if not your post will be deleted. My comments in the Facebook review section on the Bruce site have gone down like a lead balloon. It appears that if you care about good mastering and comment to that effect then you will only bring ridicule upon yourself, sadly I guess this only to be expected in the age of mp3 and spotify. |

We used to get up in t'middle of t'night, walk fifteen miles to school, waste £20 on an appalling mastering job by Adam Ayan, complain on Facebook about it, have a cup of tea, pay exatra to buy this show in HD 24/192 because of it being a classic performance, and when we got home our mams and dads would thrash us to sleep and tell us to fill out our equipment profiles.

STEVE could setup a gear profile authentication/audit service. For $500 plus travel time and expenses, he will dispatch a gorf to your Mom's basement to match your gear against your profile. The opinions of SHites with authenticated profiles will, as a result, carry so much weight that a new era of sh.tv will be inaugurated. A new era in which anyone with the bucks to buy a gorf can become a new audiophool-god in shiteland. STEVE, of course, gets all the bucks. The gorfs get to travel. Win-win! |
