But I would not be surprised.Dudley Morris and ParloFax like this.

You can see the scaffolding around it, obviously a work accident of some kind.ParloFax said:
It coud be "both"... I don't want to start anything; just saying this given the many, many recent vandalism acts in French Catholic churches. Relying here on the sayings of French political analyst Éric Zemmour.Dudley Morris likes this.
Tartifless said:
Eric Zemmour is controversial, he is known for his racist antisemite positions. Please do not quote nor consider his analysis as relevant because his only goal is to inspire hate.
ParloFax said:
Thanks for the word of advice, but you're wrong on both points (Zemmour is a Jew BTW [for those who wonder]).Tartifless said:
Zemmour is a negationist, saying gaz chambers never existed. He is a national shame. He is just a former TV speaker, never was a political analyst !

Well, I'm 58 now, so I guess I will never see Notre-Dame. I have never been to France and seeing it wasn't on any list of mine, but its loss, though not total, hits hard.Jerryb said:
Maybe I'm wrong but they should have had a special fire station right there just in case. With special equiptment designed just for Notre Dame.FredV said:

I'm not gonna say what I really think about this as far as how it may have been started.Strat-Mangler said:
The building's destruction while tragic is nothing compared to what was inside which was priceless! What a tragedy to have lost it (almost?) all so quickly.
Mrtn77 said:
That is thoroughly untrue. You have no idea what the building itself meant and continues to mean to those who have lived with it.Strat-Mangler said:
Calm down. It's my opinion. Disagree with it if you want but no sense in getting riled up over it.I wasn't speaking for others.
Mrtn77 said:
I'm not riled up by your opinion. If you don't understand why people are upset about this catastrophe, that's your problem. After all, there's no reason you should.I am, however, somewhat curious to know what particular piece of art it is that's so meaningful to you.
Strat-Mangler said:
You're being quite emotional and consequently clearly aren't reading the words I chose. That's your problem. Reread my post and make sure to understand each word, this time. Also helps if you don't skip any.Not really interested in continuing this exchange if you're going to fly off the handle due to my being more concerned about one aspect of this tragedy over another.

This is what you wrote : "The building's destruction, while tragic, is nothing compared to what was inside, which was priceless!"This is exactly what you wrote. To which I reply, once again : you have no idea what the building itself means to those who have lived with it.
Again, there's no reason that you should, but your opinion, stated as fact, is just plain wrong. If you actually pay attention to what people are saying in France right now, you'll notice quite a lot of people couldn't care less about the saint cross, Saint Louis' bloody tunic or even the magnificent organ : they're talking about the church's place and part in French history. This is hugely symbolic, and you're obviously oblivious to that. That's what I'm trying to get you to understand.
Strat-Mangler said:
Again, you misinterpreted my post. I know what I wrote and explained *my opinion* that I was more concerned with the art than the building. What others think doesn't factor into *my opinion*. That is theirs and I explained mine.I never said it was a fact or pretended to understand what the building means to others, nor does it matter one bit. I just communicated MY OPINION! Now, if you STILL can't understand this in spite of all this hand-holding, no one can help you.
Feel free to have the last word. I won't be engaging this exchange any longer.
