If there is a free buffet, Joey Molland of Badfinger will be there. Invited or not. I saw him as an opener almost 10 years ago. It was half Badfinger songs, and half him telling the story of Badfinger (some of which happened before he joined.) The constant reference to various Beatles with a tone of worship was pretty weird. Like, it's one thing for a pleb like me to see them as being larger than life, but you met them and worked with some of them, you're supposed to know better.
Then Jack Bruce (a bona fide Hall Of Fame member as if he even fucking cares) came out and did an hour plus of straight music, no bullshit storytelling. Sure, it was virtually all Cream songs, but then the band was him and Bernie Worrell alongside a drummer and popular Clapton tribute player, and then Jack was really sinking his teeth into the songs (as was Bernie).

In all seriousness though: What should the criterion be for nomination to the RRHOF? Whatever brings in the rubes / tourists.
It's a tourist trap for morons. And business is good.

I had time to kill in Cleveland once so I went to the hall of fame museum thing. It sucked.
Having said that, no Shangri-Las, so fuck 'em.

I voted: Todd The Doobies Judas Priest T. Rex Thin Lizzy Some of the others listed I do not consider rock and roll artists. Legitimate question: Who exactly did Whitney Houston influence? Legitimate answer: most women who regularly do karaoke. And some singing competition contestants. and american idol and america's got talent and the voice contestants too. other than that, absolutely no one. but hey she co-wrote 3 whole songs and never played an instrument on an album, in fact i don;t even know if she knew how to play one. but definitely more worthy of the rock and roll hall of fame than carly simon. There goes Elvis, then. Whitney Houston is widely considered one of the greatest R&B vocalists of the past 30 years, and those she influenced would include Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, etc (and for that matter, David Byrne who covered one of her hits). And yes, R&B has been part of the RRHOF since the first year. :tsk: that still does not make it right. whitney houston is no more rock and roll than ludwig von, and i am not going to get into a pissing match about it. your opinion is yours and mine is mine. i live an hour away from the rock hall, and i will never ever set foot int he place until they change the name to the popular music hall of fame.

Why Does The Rock Hall Of Fame Hate Jethro Tull?Jethro Tull is an incredible rock band. I've seen them live several times and have most of their recordings. They are a great rock & roll band with a unique and accomplished sound. They have great musicians. They have a great singer. Great lyrics. They have multiple hits. They sell tons of records. They have a large following. Every year when the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame's nominees come out, I look for their name. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. etc. What the heck is wrong here?

I was a Todd fanatic but after the "Todd" album he lost me (except for a handful of songs) because of that Utopia crap.

I like a handful of Todd albums. How many artists that have been around a long time do you stick with, though? Especially a guy like Todd that decided he needed to prove that he could do something besides whatever it was he had done, like have hits. That A cappela stuff is horrid. Then again maybe he belongs in the Rock Hall because he influenced Bobbie McFerrin and the guy from the Airplane movies.
The Rock Hall Museum is pretty neat, but I like museums. I still think they have too many people in the HOF part and they should start doing unduction ceremonies. But some of the special attractions are neat, and they have some great free concerts out on the mall in the summer with sort of reasonably priced Fat Heads beer. I think it's fun and I like living near it.
