David Johansen interview from the Quietus.
You say that it's important in the studio to not have the same experience repeatedly, but you did bring in Todd Rundgren on the last album and you'd worked with him before.
DJ: Ah well no, that was completely different. We did that record at Todd's house in Hawaii. And to be in Hawaii in January when you're a New Yorker is just heaven. So it was miles away from the last one we did with him in New York. It was like recording in paradise.
I was doing some reading recently and came across an interview you did in 1978 where you made some less-than-amicable remarks about Todd Rungren. But you had changed your tune when you brought him in for Cause I Sez So in 2006… what happened?
DJ: What exactly did I say in 1978?
I think your exact words were: 'He's a cunt. But it only took six days to make that album so I didn't have to get on with him.'
DJ: [Laughs] I was probably drunk. Jesus, I don't remember. I mean, the thing is, when we were working with Todd, we only had one month to make a record and you figure, well, Todd's definitely gonna come through with his end of things and everyone's gotta come through with their end, and in that prescribed time, we're gonna have a record. You know, a lot of people make records for forever. They go into the studio and, like, live there, but it's not the way we do it. We say, 'We're gonna make a record' and make one essentially very quickly. We don't sit around thinking about it so much. It's much more instinctual.

How was my reply deleted for “steering into a racial direction” when race was never mentioned? So just the mere speculation that any opinion is tied to racism is grounds for deletion? Hey mods.....my wife is a black woman and I grew up with a very diverse upbringing. Not that it should matter. Race has NOTHING to do with narrowing the scope of what is “Rock and Roll”. Either it is or it isn’t......unless you want to include early artists who were highly influential to future rockers.

There’re plenty of supposedly married men on there who are pretty misogynistic, so it’s a crap argument.

"How could I possibly be a racist? My wife is black!" That's like Eric Clapton's defense when it comes to his "Enoch Powell" rant: "How could I be racist, I'm a bluesman!"

I hope the hall only took into account Todd Rundgren's production work.
Edited to add: I think it sucks that Fela Kuti didn't get in given the popular support. I get the Hall is a tourist trap and that a lot of Fela's votes came from Africa, and given the global pandemic, Cleveland is probably not chasing tourist dollars from outside the country, but still...

The good news: Struntlerunt is in and they can all shut the fuck up.
The bad news: They will find some other shitty band to hang their "why isn't ____ in the hall of fame" hat on.

Oh goodie, there should be plenty of fodder for our racism and misogyny threads today.
Why is Kraftwerk, whose main body of work was initially recorded in the mid 70s through early 80s, being put in as an Early Influence Award? Just put them in the main hall and put up with the fucks who will cry that Yngwie Malmsteen should be in the HOF because he can play sixty-fourth notes on the guitar and he made Ritchie Blackmore seem like a fun humble guy to be in a band with.

Because they don't sell tickets to the dinner or drive visits.

I don't hate Iron Maiden, but I hate their fanbase.
Madness
I like Danby Delight
I thought I was kidding when I made my joke about Yngwie. wdiv, though, is ready for the twenty minutes of classical scales played really fast that would be Malmsteen's performance at an induction ceremony, which would probably end with him yelling obscenities at a roadie.
How many tickets will DeVoe be buying?
