John Oteri was there too, man, which makes this story less credible. Besides, wasn't STEVE only like 5 in 1969?
Hoofnutz in 2008 Sorry STeVe but you’re full of shit here, too. The Stones next stop after 2 shows at the Forum was in Oakland at Oakland County Arena on November 9. Altamont wasn’t until December 6. A simple google search could have made your lie a little believable, bucko.

Why would he lie about his age publicly? Is he dodging tax or something? You can often find STeVe talking about his ex-girlfriend Clair Marlo and how they dated in the early 80s. She appears to be as vain as STeVe and shaved a decade off her life by changing her wiki page from a 1959 birth to a 1969 birth. They deserved each other. Next time STeVe brings her up you should use one of your sock accounts to ask him why he was dating a 12 year old girl in 1982. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clair_Marlo

Steve was 18 in 1969.
He had a set bedtime then?
(I think Hoffman forgets that people can do simple arithmetic, and that we know he was born in 1951...)

Hoffman's timeline is more screwed up than The Simpsons.

Not reposting this on purpose, just moving from the myKKKe thread as I posted it there by mistake.
Loads of shit from Steve Hoffman. Besides the Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac inconsistency check out the Badfinger bullshit, too.

Ever notice no matter how many times he sees someone, it's always "I met"? You met Brian Wilson at a record store then met him at lunch? Which was it, STEVE? Did you meet Fleetwood Mac at KLAC or did you meet them at Tower? Which was it, STEVE? Or is it said that way so your minions will all jump up and poat "Aw, man! You met _____________? That's so cool! I'm so jealous of you STEVE! Where would the world be without you!"

You raise an interesting point; to me, that's the 'elephant in the living room'. I think it was daved who said "you live in or near Hollywood, of fucking course you'll see famous people". I'm sure most of us here have seen our fair share of interviews with musicians and actors/actresses and athletes, but when do you ever see such name dropping? Sure, sometimes one may mention working with a 'legend', but that's it. Using the group above as an example, while you'll read a STEVE poat bragging about meeting Stevie Nicks, you'll never hear Stevie Nicks mention meeting STEVE. Now that I think about it, who the hell ever mentions meeting STEVE? This guy has been everywhere and seen everything and met everyone, yet...crickets. Funny how that works.

The same thing could be said for Vidiot. This begs the question: Have STeVE and Vidiot ever crossed paths? Since both boast about being pals with much of Hollywood’s glitterati, why haven’t either of them shared stories about constantly bumping into each other? (Of course, the more-logical explanation is that all of their stories are fabricated bullshit, and that our mocking them is all they deserve.)

(Of course, the more-logical explanation is that all of their stories are fabricated bullshit, and that our mocking them is all they deserve.) These are direct quotes from an unnamed forum from Marc. He was responding to me and some other members ripping on Hoofy:
Steve Hoffman is actually a nice guy and very knowledgeable (both about rock music history and about engineering), and he has good ears. I had lunch with him a couple of years ago and he's terrific in person. I think the site gets a bad rep sometimes because good people get treated badly, or somebody runs afoul of the rules, or (as in these cases) the Gorts may go a little too far in censoring or banning certain discussions. Their intent is good, even if the results aren't always perfect.
------------------------------------
This was a lunch with just me and Steve and nobody else, one on one over at Jerry's Deli. I had no problem with him at all. I know there are people who dislike him, but people have a tendency to have strong opinions in music and particularly in regards to collectors, so there will always be people who dislike and/or criticize people like Bill Inglot, Hoffman, even Ron Furmanek. I think part of it is jealousy, part of it is just a difference of opinion, part of it is just attitude.
I think they get upwards of 5000 messages a day over at the Hoffman Forum, so it would figure that there will inevitably be people with hurt feelings, people who get angry, people who get into arguments, winners, losers, the whole emotional range. I think at some point you have to step back and realize it's just ASCII text on a screen -- it's not life and death, it's not anything important, and it's just an opinion.
------------------------------------
Actually, even in private I have never heard Steve slam the work of another engineer. In particular, when the remastered Beatles CDs came out in 2009, Steve went out of his way not to say anything about them either way. About the worst he would say was that he didn't agree with some of what was done, but would not cite any specifics. I've also heard him say good things about other compilation producers like Ron Furmanek and Bill Inglot. I think Steve is keenly aware that part of anybody's reputation hinges on a professional attitude, and a lot of that generally includes not complaining or criticizing the work of others.
It's fair to say that the mastering business is one that runs to some extent on "artistic temperaments," and that also extends to the crazy fans. I've heard some of the fans and critics on Hoffman's forum (and here) slam the living crap out of CDs that I've listened to, and yet my opinion is generally, "eh... it sounded OK to me." In particular, the Beatles 2009 CDs sounded fine; in truth, they're not gigantically different from the 1980s CDs.
There are some cases where Steve and some of the other regulars have slammed (for example) the Beach Boys remixes by Mark Linett, but those get both praise and criticism all over the place. I like 90% of them myself, and I never have a problem with new stereo mixes, particularly when the mono is already out or is very common. In some cases, the stereo mixes aren't great, but a lot of the time that's because the master tapes they have to work with limit their available options. Steve is generally in the camp that says "do not remix, because it changes the original artist's work," and I understand that opinion even if I don't agree with it.

They've seen it all, they've met everyone, they've been everywhere...yet they don't even know each other??? Have we ever heard any other mastering engineers (erm...) or "color correctors" drop names like this? STEVE is worse, because he inserts himself into every integral event of the 2nd half of the 20th century. This is on some Quantum Leap shit. They were there...but nobody else seems to remember.

Suze, I need you to pull out the color coded "Hoofy bullshit story" chart for this one. This sock is so crusty it was in DeVoe's bedroom in the corner.

Mastering engineers are subject to “artistic temperament” Not if they want to work. I think I’ve said this before but one of the biggest disservices STeVE has done is create this mystique around what a mastering engineer is and does.

I do believe that many years back, I read an article about the so-called loudness wars, and an actually well-known mastering engineer said "I do what the band/label wants or I don't eat". The mastering engineer is just another cog in the machine.
I think it's just who STEVE is. If he was a fry cook at McDonald's, he'd have all these stories about having lunch with Ray Kroc.
Come to think of it...does he have a story about meeting Ray Kroc already?
