dead of night is a complete lunatic. He posted some really wild shit in the Bowie Blackstar thread. Or it might have been Bowie's RIP thread.
Can't really remember and I'm sure it's long gone but it was crazy stuff about demonic possession and dark forces and that sort of thing. A total kook.

I mean, saying that John Paul Jones didn't pull his weight in Zeppelin is just fucking asinine. Like, the dumbest thing ever posted on the internet.

Did Steve pull his weight at Dunhill Compact Classics? The weight of his ego must've damaged the roof beams.

Imagine them without JPJ and just a strung out Jimmy in the last few years.

Imagine them without JPJ and just a strung out Jimmy in the last few years. There wouldn't have been a Led Zeppelin past 1977 if not for John Paul Jones (and that's not factoring in how Robert Plant really didn't want to go back to the rock and roll game after his kid died, if not for John Bonham's prodding). Starting with the In Through The Out Door sessions, JPJ picked up the slack, where Page didn't show up half the time, staying at home and overdubbing his sloppier than usual guitar playing. By the time the 1980 tour came around Jones was basically the musical director of the band. If Bonham hadn't croaked before the American tour they would have found Page dead with a spike in his arm in a hotel room like Janis Joplin. Other than that one listen to Zooma will show you just what John Paul Jones brought to the table in Zeppelin, and, as usual with the unsung heroes of a band, it was a hell of a lot more than he got credit for. I mean, giving Bonham credit for "Kashmir" but not Jonesy seems like an insult. It's JPJ's string arrangements and synths that make the fucking song!

I don't know if I've said it on here or not, but the difference John Paul Jones made is clearest when you compare their 90s work - specifically Unledded to The Sporting Life, the album JPJ made with Diamanda Galas, which is absolutely fucking superb.

"Sleeping sickness" my ass. Robert Plant's voice is cracking like the "Squeaky Voiced Teen" on The Simpsons at that show too. No wonder Page didn't touch that Seattle '77 footage with a ten foot syringe or Crowley staff when he was lashing together the 2003 DVD...Bonham and Jones are the only ones who come off sounding decent at that gig.
