I'm less familiar with Sedaka's deep cuts - is there any edgy/confrontational stuff of note? (I'm not being ironical here: please surprise me) "Bad Blood" is pretty confrontational, and its use of the B-word is pretty edgy especially for 1975.

Or that Neil's duet partner on Bad Blood did The Bitch Is Back like a year before. But I guess Elton was on the extreme edge in 1975.

That would be something. Sedaka, Bowie, Elton and Jagger doing a medley of their "Bitch" songs.

All kidding aside, he’s not in the Hall Of Fame? That’s pretty ridiculous considering Percy Sledge is in it for one fucking song

Christmas eve, I was with Grandma and my uncle. Rather than listen to Christmas music, we had the Solid Gold Oldies station on. Paul Anka came on and I remarked about what an asshole he is. Grandma seemed surprised, but then realized she was thinking of someone else. But, who? The name was on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't even think of a song by this person. She just remembered seeing him on TV singing and playing piano. I suggested Liberace but clearly was off the mark. Finally, ten minutes later, something clicked, and she remembered: Neil Sedaka.

The one thing I know about Neil Sedaka is that he used to open for the Carpenters in 1975-ish, and would get the crowd all fired up and jumping around. Then the Carpenters came on with their boring set and bummed everyone out. The concert reviews all said the same thing; Sedaka was a real showman and the Carpenters were stiff and wooden.
Curmudgeon Richard Carpenter's response, aside from taking more pills, was to uncerimoniously and with rancor fire Sedaka on the spot for "not knowing his place" or words to that effect.
While I will never be bothered to sit through a Neil Sedaka album ever in my life, for this one incident alone, I am in his corner.
