I've said for over a decade that even the majority on this forum prefer all things LOUD with impaired dynamics. The majority of the comments these last couple of dozen pages prove me right - again. If you want a semblance of natural flowing dynamic sound AVOID this CD set. Regardless of mix, I've never heard ATMP sound worse and that says a lot given the 2001 30th set was in my top dozen list of worst masterings I've ever personally heard. It's now been replaced in said worst ever list by this 50th. My opinion the 50th CD ringmaster stinks worse than a waste dump at full sun high noon on a 100º summer day. The opinion of the majority even on this forum will differ and I'm sure they will angrily post in response to my comments, but i feel folks like SH would agree with me not the majority. Seek out the 40th 2010 24/96 (only the 24/96 not the CD's or any other 2011 version) if you want as close to audiophile as this album will ever get on digital. P.S. regarding the non-album takes and material , I'll gladly stick with my now 25-30 year old ROIO's.

Why buy the thing if you’ve made up your mind that the albums gonna sound worse?

That an over simplification and not valid in terms of restoring Dynamics. SH has mentioned over the years lost Dynamics are lost forever. They can not be "restored " regardless of what tool/method is used to make the wave-forms look "nicer". The only way not to loose Dynamics is to not remove them in first place. Not saying your re-eq'ing wont make sound more pleasing to your own ears, strictly talking about the Dynamic range @steve Hoffman @plan9
As you see I am attempting to contact 2 professional mastering engineers (including this forum's host) to confirm my above paragraph. Of course they are likely too busy IRL to respond but let's see what they say before non-professionals begin to wrongly flame the paragraph. To those that appreciate Dynamic range the many posts that appear in this thread accepting this new CD mastering as being "good" is why the war ended 3 decades ago and we lost.

That forum software should be altered so that any time anyone posts the words "Hoffman" or "host", a short mp3 plays of some old guys falling over each other while making smooching sounds. The user's avatar should also be modified to be a generic face with a brown stain on the nose for twenty-four hours. An exception is when posting in the forum donation thread, where the generic avatar also gets a dunce cap.

"This forum's host" is too busy? I guess it does take a lot of time to copy and paste "thanks" in the donation thread.

I love all those long threads on box set and deluxe edition remastered albums. Dozens of pages of speculation and hope of the great white whale of a high DR only to be disappointed by a industry standard low DR. Shite torture porn.

whereas the original vinyl renditions of Phallus Dei or Tanz der Lemminge just kind of lie there, flaccid-like.
Nothing worse than a limp Phallus Dei.

Nobody gives a fuck about Dynamic Range except them. Never heard a human being even mention it anywhere else either online or in real life. It’s funny when they use the loudness wars as their excuse for not following music from the past 20-30 years. “I swear I’d be so open minded to listen to new stuff that isn’t boomer music made by white guys in the 60s and 70s if only it wasn’t so brickwallled!”

Brickwalling and clipping were actual problems. Well executed compression, however excessive they might consider it, solves that problem and leads to good results. But where's the fun in that, right?

New thread in hardware: My jamo s606 + a-s801 is imagining like CRAZY! That guy would post a thread if he sneezed while listening to his system.
Do sneeze particles affect Speakers/Amp?
