Excuse me, but the only "Byrd" to record as a musician on their first Columbia "Mr. Tambourine Man" album was Jim(Roger) McGuinn playing his 12-string Mapleglo Rickenbacker, only because he bitched and moaned so much. The Wrecking Crew Played on MANY Monkees recordings. I guess you haven't seen the "Wrecking Crew" documentary? Or even read any of the autobiographies of group members or other books about the Wrecking Crew? Maybe you haven't ever spoken to a Wrecking Crew member, as I have? Oh, the Byrds members DID play on the "Preflyte" album, that's why it has such a different sound.

For fuck's sake, these Beach Boys, Monkees, and Byrds albums have had liner notes and credits detailing who played what for at least 30 years. Every boring asshole thinks that he, and it's always a he, is revealing some deep knowledge every time he mentions the goddamned Wrecking Crew. I hate even calling them that.

How are any of the Wrecking Crew even still alive? Maybe he is a construction worker.

Plus a lot of those Wrecking Crew guys ("guys" including Carol Kaye) are famous for claiming that they played on everything, so talking to them proves nothing. If I remember right (not that it even really matters), the Mr. Tambourine Man *single* was McGuinn + studio hands but the rest of the album had the Byrds playing.
Mr. "AutomatedElectronics" lists his occupation as "retired" and his location as "the People's Republic of California." Yep, that checks out.

Boomers love to talk about the Wrecking Crew because the Wrecking Crew were hard working talented guys (and gals) who never got the fame and recognition they deserved...
Or at least, that's what Boomers *like to think* about the Wrecking Crew, because that's exactly what Boomers like to think about THEMSELVES

Carol Kaye is a talented woman. She’s also delusional. You were paid to do a job. You did it. End of story.

The funny thing is that most of these session players, usually older and into jazz, probably hated most of the songs they played on that the Shites revere.

Carol did play bass on The End by The Beatles. The guitar solos are by Glen Campbell, Tommy Tedesco, and Billy Strange. I can't remember the drummer's name, but he also played on I Will Follow Him by Little Peggy March.

Pretty sure Carole Kaye won't be claiming to have played on that one.

Pretty sure Carole Kaye won't be claiming to have played on that one. No, not at all. That is a local band from when I was in high school. Any time I hear "wrecking crew", that song pops into my head. Nothing special; just a few kids having some fun. That would never pass muster in Hoofyville. I know it's no Father Time or Beagles, but these guys have the excuse of only being 17 at the time lol

It’s like being mad about extras in The Godfather not getting credit for carrying the movie.
“The guy in the second toll booth should get credit. He gets the most shots off on Sonny”.

He's right about one thing. We have nothing to talk about!
How I learned about the Wrecking Crew is a story I remember well. My friend and I, about 16 or so at the time, were walking the boulevard, talking about the Beatles, and some guy overheard us and said "what are kids YOUR age talking about the Beatles for?" He then engaged us in conversation which turned to him telling us about this secret cabal of musicians who played on every hit record, about his phone call with Brian Wilson, about how Elvis never really wrote a song, and then about the book he was writing about all this (or maybe making a documentary?) I'm pretty sure by this point, all this info was pretty well known but I certainly just didn't care enough to have ever looked it up.
