I have no proof, but always suspected this was about Lennon losing a girlfriend to, say, David Crosby. A Byrd that could sing. This would make it a song of personal jealousy. The thing that kind of clinched it for me was hearing the original take that had a very Byrds-sounding arrangement to it.

You lose IQ points the longer you read that stuff. Every day there's more, an endless river of shit.

There’s also this weird fantasizing they do that everyone knew everyone and every inspiration for every song just HAD to come from another famous rocker. Famous people can’t just be inspired by the every day.
Similar, any unidentified person in a photo just HAS to be someone super famous. That woman with curly hair? MUST be Bonnie Raitt. Guy with his face turned with an Afro? Definitely Hendrix. Guy in a suit, could that be Sinatra?
(beatard on… Sinatra is actually said to have inspired the title line but don’t tell the shites that)

And Your Bird Can Sing…..it’s about a member of the Byrds!. Fuck off.

Isn't it supposed to be a swipe at Sinatra, whose own career was well on the slide?

Isn't it supposed to be a swipe at Sinatra, whose own career was well on the slide? As much as I love the song, I don’t think it’s about anything. Lyrically it sounds like he wrote it on the crapper in 5 minutes, which is probably why Lennon rates it so low. Musically it might be in my top 5 Beatles songs.
