any news on the feud between Neil Young/Joni Mitchell and Spotify?
I know I could switch to another stream service but honestly Spotify works brilliantly for my needs.
I did a search online but I don't see any recent updates on the situation...
I used Qobuz for a while and their catalogue here in the UK has gaps much wider and more serious than Joni and Neil.
A boycott makes sense when 1) is successful in moving public opinion 2) is on an issue people can support and identify with.
This boycott is failing on both fronts and the fact that most people here have not heard on this issue for months is a clear evidence that I am not wrong.
I asked for news on the boycott, if anyone has any.
Do you think their boycott has been successful? How many listeners has Spotify lost because of it? 5?
But, once again, I didn't open this thread to learn about the reasons of the boycott, only to know if anyone had any idea of its development.
You've got some proper replies to your Thread Title and yet you insist on dragging Politics, Unions and 'zon into the mix.
You inserted politics into the thread by wanting to discuss the boycott which I completely avoided initially.
Now please read the thread title again and only reply if it is on topic. Thanks.
The morality of the boycott is not part of this thread topic.
Nothing to say, skip the thread. Simple.
Also, see last sentence of my first post.
Congratulations.
It's just a pity for Joni Mitchell because she has the archive campaign ongoing at the moment.

Any news on their catalogues ever returning to Spotify? I am travelling a lot these days and also in the process of moving house so I rely almost completely on streaming for my music listening at the moment and the fact that these two artists are not available in a big annoyance, particularly Neil Young because even CSNY and many albums have tracks missing because of him.I know I could switch to another stream service but honestly Spotify works brilliantly for my needs.
I did a search online but I don't see any recent updates on the situation...

I find it hard to believe that my moral standing will improve if I use Amazon or Apple instead of Spotify.I used Qobuz for a while and their catalogue here in the UK has gaps much wider and more serious than Joni and Neil.

To be honest I don't follow US politics so deeply to even understand the point of the issue. This guy Rogan is a total unknown entity to me and, I would bet, to 99.9% of the world outside the US.A boycott makes sense when 1) is successful in moving public opinion 2) is on an issue people can support and identify with.

Thanks for the suggestion but please read the thread title. I didn't ask for suggestions on how to replace Spotify or being preached by other people on how naughty I am for using it.I asked for news on the boycott, if anyone has any.

Obviously. Your point is? The inconvenience is not the ultimate goal of a boycott, just a means to an end.Do you think their boycott has been successful? How many listeners has Spotify lost because of it? 5?

I will check your messages and if I find out you have bought something from a company that refuses to recognise unions you will be publicly crucified.Music Geek said:
I find it strange that people who feel so strongly about this issue can then happily do business with Amazon. But, once again, I didn't open this thread to learn about the reasons of the boycott, only to know if anyone had any idea of its development.

OP: Why do you insist on blowing up your own Thread? You've got some proper replies to your Thread Title and yet you insist on dragging Politics, Unions and 'zon into the mix.

Are you serious? You have posted at least 3 or 4 totally off topic messages and now you complain if I reply to them? You inserted politics into the thread by wanting to discuss the boycott which I completely avoided initially.
Now please read the thread title again and only reply if it is on topic. Thanks.

If you wanted to avoid these other issues, why did you bother to mention them in the first place?Music Geek said:
Because people like you are presenting this issue like a morality tale while I only wanted to know if there was any news. The morality of the boycott is not part of this thread topic.

Great. But instead I opened a thread here. Is that a problem for you?Nothing to say, skip the thread. Simple.

Well then, if you didn't find anything...Music Geek said:
How to enter a discussion you don't care about, say something irrelevant and **** up the thread completely. You have done it all now.Congratulations.

I don't think there will ever be any news on the subject. Neil Young's stuff is elsewhere. He's not going to volunteer to put it back and Spotify isn't going to volunteer to put music artists before their own exclusive highly-paid podcaster.Music Geek said:
You are probably right. If Neil Young had managed to extend the boycott to other more prominent artists then perhaps things would be different but I don't think Spotify owners are losing sleep over Neil Young and Joni Mitchell missing from their catalogue and most likely Neil Young is not losing sleep from missing the Spotify revenue. It's just a pity for Joni Mitchell because she has the archive campaign ongoing at the moment.
