It’s questionable as to how much influence John Lennon had on the way those tracks sound, other than vetoing some things and ok’ing others. His idea for recording his vocal for TNN was literally insane and he rubbished George Martin’s painstaking work on SFF saying it was ‘too raucous’ and announced plans to re-do it. The impression left is that he left it to others to realise his visions on the basis of some fairly obscure and unhelpful instructions (‘I want to smell the sawdust’, etc.). TNN = Tomorrow Never... Nose?

Back in the 60's when I was doing the Shadows EP at Abbey Road, CNN was trying to film us in our studio and from the next control room, engineer Geoff Emerick had John Lennon in there and full blast this came through the wall, right on to the CNN microphones: "I'm a big man, I'm a big big man, I'm a big, big, big black mother****ing man."
