"I mastered an album called Wings, Speed of Sound, Paul McCartney and had the most nervous time of my life when Paul McCartney called me up one day:
PM: “I’m in L.A. I wanna come over to hear this.”
SH: “You wanna come o..? Y’know, I’m mastering this in my house, you know..”
PM: “Where do you live?”
Like, already, my palms, right now my palm is ready to sweat . <audience laughter>
SH: (sitcom voice) “Honeeeey, McCartney is coming over.” <audience laughter>
That was the most horrible nerve wrecking afternoon in my life. You know, Paul… friggin' Cartney is driving up to my house. What is my good stereo? What should I wear? <audience laughter> I was really nervous, boy, you know… He came in alone, knocked on the front door. We listened to the entire Wings’ “Speed of sound” album, you know, uh, “Silly Love Songs” and all that stuff. He sat right next to me on my little mastering couch. My side has a permanently sweat mark, his side is okay. <audience laughter> I’ll never wash it again! <audience laughter> He heard the tape, he said:
PM: “Sounds fine, you did a great job. Thanks!”
Gone!
SH: (weak voice) “Goodbye, Paul…” <audience laughter>
SH: (sitcom voice) “Okay Honey, let the dogs out, let the kid out” <audience laughter> (
