Maybe this is just me, but I knew a pretty decent number of outwardly healthy-seeming people who just went and dropped dead prior to 2020...unless the VAX is so sinister that it killed people before it was even invented.

Albini thread locked. Gee, what a surprise. Whether Albini said what he said just to be an outrageous asshole, or if he had certain proclivities, who knows?
But I do know thou shalt not make negative comments in a Hoffman RIP thread. No matter what the person did or said.
I guess when Gary Glitter keels over, it will be nothing but positive praise on the Hoffman Forum, because negativity ain't allowed maaaan.

This forum doesn't need to be the destination for everyone who is frustrated they can't keep repeating their points at SHtv. Just a thought. Albini was into button pushing and went way beyond what is acceptable with it, when he was a young man. The older man acknowleged that the younger man was an edgelord douche -- owned his past way more than most public figures bother to -- and I don't know what more you could want. (And this is coming from someone who prefers the sound of Dry over Rid of Me)

I don’t think I’ve read the tour diary since the 1990s, but wasn’t the whole thing just an “Ugly American is let loose in the world, and can’t believe what he sees”? In between bitching about various bands and how shitty Big Black were at that night’s show, he reads a magazine of high production values of teens in a Belgium(? German?)sex shop, has bad sex with a Dutch prostitute, is stunned Asians shit in a hole in the floor, a completely unknown Kurt Cobain asks for a piece of his shattered guitar after his last concert, he returns home to find out his girlfriend is pregnant and convinces her to abort it, which makes him happy. I’ve seen a bunch of places (including someone defending him on SH.tv) say this was his private diary so these are his real thoughts, but it was always something written specifically for Forced Exposure, and he knew the audience he was writing to and what they’d expect from him.

Supposedly this whole concerted effort to dredge this stuff up again in his lifetime stems from him making comments supporting trans people, and people were so upset with this that they went and dug it up (Albini’s response at the time was “Congrats on finding my writings from things that had print runs in the thousands, Sherlock”), so the people drawing attention to it again now that he’s dead are not doing it out of any real concern. As for the Sotos stuff, I knew nothing about him aside from his involvement with the band Whitehouse (who I’ve never heard, but assumed was some sort of Boyd Rice/NON industrial bullshit) and only glanced over his Wiki entry and deciding “This is not someone I want to know more about,” but could see how the younger noise and depravity enthusiast Albini would strike a friendship with him.
