When they see an artist's catalog does well, they may block it from third party licensing to see if they might possibly exploit it for themselves, which is perfectly within their rights. This also means that even if I had decided to request the Farewell concert for LP or CD, it would also be blocked from proceeding. Had I requested to do an Alive CD at the time I asked for the LP, it likely would have been approved, so I'll kick myself for procrastinating. Universal would check the sales reports for reissues that were likely a one time pressing, with around a few thousands copies (probably around 2,000-3,000 produced) concerned? They most likely see at some point if there is online coverage, if some titles got quickly out of print, and if he asked to print another batch of copies but no executive would spend much time checking if some act sold 200-300 copies on ceedee in the last quarter.
