I've been monitoring this borefest from afar. I can't get through a single page of it, and I am tolerant of such things usually. They seem to be up to 1973 or 1974. I don't know if any of them realize that for about the final 35 years of their #1's, they aren't gonna have anything to say and will not even have heard of most of the artists? They have set off to cross the Pacific Ocean in their plane, but don't have enough fuel to even make it to Midway Island. However, there will be ample opportunities to bitch about the state of music that most of them have never heard once they hit the mid 1990's. Not worth reading yet, but maybe worth keeping an eye on. forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/every-billboard-1-hit-discussion-thread-1958-present.496101/page-453

Most of them are probably hoping for the rapture before they reach the end of 1979. Any day now, the signs are all there...

For a moment, I thought that this had something to do with Grnta's slow-burned 70s compilations.

They page I landed on, they're (well, Grant and some other poater) having a squabble about Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon, but without anything interesting to say either way. It's about who is or was more popular.
Grant !

Someone came along with the pacifying 'oh let's just agree they are both amazing and leave it at that'. Little room for critical thinking or interesting discussion there, as I'm pretty sure you know!

Ya gotta love the typical SHite's taste in music. The Monkees were just too heavy for a lot of these guys. The Partridge Family is right up there on Mount Suckmore, right next to Macca.
I think your older brother tormented you more for that sun dress and those high heels from mom's closet you kept wearing when she went out.
In the same post, Grant goes on to praise Barry Manilow. I wonder if he's gay? Hey Grant, you have been a SHite for 20 years and you don't know Paul Butterfield?
These guys are not very attuned to irony, are they? They sing the praises of David Cassidy and Barry Manilow, but they scoff at "Seasons in the Sun"? There was a time when I thought "Seasons in the Sun" was The Partridge Family. It is cut from precisely the same cloth. Except that it rocks a little more than the Partridge Family ever did...
You mean unsurprisingly, this is a steaming pile of shit. How the fuck could these guys grow up loving such garbage? This is what they spent tens of thousands of dollars to hear on their tubey, golden-cabled stereos? Bearded Millennials who download indie rock are more detestable than 55 year old men who pop a boner at physical media bubblegum teenybop records?
Weren't the Fifth Dimension always the very epitome of schlock? Even in the 1960's, people knew that...
There really are no fora out there with worse collective taste in music than Hoofer's. None. How could anything be worse?
Incidentally, all of these quotes are from the discussion of a single song, "The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia" by Vicky Lawrence. The SH forum consensus is that the song blows chunks, which leaves me scratching my head. Yes, of course, it is a terrible song and I will even throw in that it is a terribly recorded song, which is something none of the audiophiles picked up on. But how is it qualitatively any worse than the New Seekers sissying up Pinball Wizard? Not that the original was so great.
There is one fan of the Lawrence song, though:
thecdguy also uses a girl for an avatard, in this case Anne Murray. Can it really get any worse than Anne Murray? At least Olivia Newton-John was pretty...
I swear, just reading two pages of that thread tonight has me almost wanting to sing "I am woman, hear me roar", except that most women have far better taste in music than these losers.
I still am amazed by a forum that is so hyper snobbish about audiophila and yet all in the service of Anne Murray, the Partridge Family, Barry Manilow, and Olivia Newton-John. It's like buying an Armani suit to play hopscotch in or something.

And, he's wrong. It's The H. J. Heinz Company (thanks Wikipedia). Considering how much the SHItes love minutia and shitty mass marketed food, I'd expect someone to take him to task on that.
