SandAndGlass is on one in this thread - How do you age gracefully?
SandAndGlass said:
People who stay even somewhat active, get plenty of exercise. I sustained an injury to my knee back in 2013, which forced me into a less active lifestyle, than before. But I realize, that while it is not perfectly healed, at least I am not in pain (I do not take pain pills, even after dental surgery, where I may take a Motrin or two.
I am fortunate that I really don't generally get headache's except I get migraine headache's after eating food out in restaurants that has all kinds of chemicals added.
Which is one reason, I avoid many types of restaurant food.
This is also an incentive to buy quality ingredients and prepare my own foods at home. Last year, I found myself ordering a lot of restaurant food, through the new delivery services. I completely stopped doing that as well. Since last fall, when I made the commitment to return to home cooked meals, I feel so much healthier now, because of it.
Sometimes, when I am out running around, I will stop for an upscale cheeseburger or nice meal in a restaurant that prepares their meals from scratch.
I see no harm in doing that. If I want to eat a hot dog, I will buy so good quality Hebrew National Kosher hot dogs and enjoy one now and again. I even developed my own recipe for Cincinnati style chili, that is better than the chain restaurants. It is also a lot more healthier.
If you really want to age gracefully, STAY OUT OF RESTAURANTS !
You will be so much better off health wise, preparing your own meals. Learn to listen to your body, get an understanding about all of the fodss that compromise your daily diet.
The single, worst thing about eating out in restaurant's is the poor quality of fats that are used in almost everything they serve. There is simply no way to get around this, except eating at home, as often as your lifestyle will accommodate it.
My last doctor bill was about $125, for the treatment of a middle ear infection back in 2014.
I have a deep fryer in my kitchen, that I am going to use later today to do my deep fried COD fish. I will serve it with hush puppies and crinkle cut French fries. I make my own cocktail and tarter sauces. The simple recipe for them is posted in the What's For Dinner thread.
The whole wild caught Alaskan Cod fillet weighs about a pound for each fillet, give or take. The Cod is delivered twice a week to my local Winn Dixie and is $7.00 a pound, which is enough to feed two to three people, along with a couple of sides or a salad.
Seriously, If I were to go out and pay $30 for lunch in a restaurant, I could not get deep fried Cod as good as what I make at home.
I will add, that my fryer takes two gallons of oil to fill. I am buying Avacado oil, that is $45/Gal.
Note: It seems that the price has now risen up to $49.50/Gal. Above link is to the Amazon Prime listing.

But, it is a super high quality neutral tasting oil that is very easily digested and has a smoke point of over 500°. It is the perfect natural oil for deep frying. Once you eat real high quality fried food, you will not go back to ingesting crappy oils.
I use EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) to pan fry with. It has an undeserved reputation by many, who accuse it of not being to withstand the temperatures that are needed for frying, before it starts to smoke and break down.
From the Bertoli web site, published smoke points of olive oil:
OLIVE OIL SMOKE POINT
An olive oil’s smoke point is the temperature at which it stops sizzling and starts burning, affecting taste. The higher the smoke point the better it is for high heat cooking and grilling.
EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL: UP TO 392°F/200°C
Mild OLIVE OIL: UP TO 410°F/210°C
EXTRA LIGHT TASTING OLIVE OIL: UP TO 410°F/210°C
As you can see, those false claims do not hold up to the actual facts.
True cold pressed, unprocessed oils like EVOO and Avacado, are the most natural and easily digestible oils that you can include in your diet.
Although there are many other oils that people recommend for deep frying, due to their high smoke points, I really don't recommend them. Being fryer friendly, does not mean that they are human body friendly. Because they all are artificially processed, they don't break down easily in the body, as a natural cold pressed oil.
Secondly and also importantly. Processed oils are processed with petro-chemicals, which remain in the oil and will remain in your body too.
They are sound good on paper, until you take these important points into consideration.
Here is a homemade pizza for today's lunch. More healthy than from a commercial pizzeria and better tasting too. Just to show you, that almost everything that they make in a restaurant, you can make at home, better and for less money.

Ageing is not for wimps. You never know when something may take away what you used to take for granted. You will have to learn new methods and deal with lesser abilities.
Live your life the best you can while understanding you are not as able as you once were.
Be at peace with that and ageing gracefully becomes easier because you are simply ageing gracefully, rather than wondering how to age gracefully.
So, I don't do many of things that I used to do. So what? At least I took the time, money and effort to do them at the time, while I could.
Very excellent point! Now day's I just shrug my shoulders and think, so what, and just allow myself to just accept and deal with it.

No truer words were ever spoken my friend. I'm am going to give it my absolute best to accomplish this, before the day, that I am right.

I've never wanted a Buick myself, but part of growing old gracefully is being able to buy a Buick if that's what you like, doing other old person things and not being embarrassed about it.
I have always driven full size cars, as other members of my family always have. They have more room and tend to be safer and more comfortable.
I drive a Mercury Grand Marquis, which is the second oldest make/model in the "old" buyer's demographic. Buick being the oldest.
The Grand Marque's were discontinued after 2011, so a Buick may be your next best option, before that too is gone.

I am going to retire on Monday. I'm 63, should wait but I just can't take it anymore. So my method of aging gracefully is to get the stress of dealing with asshats out of my life permanently.

I agree with @buzzzx and @sckott above. I'll be turning 62 this year and retirement is looking awfully enticing. I was going to wait until 65, but just the thought of not having to put up with the azzhats (or more reasonably put up with them to a much lesser extent) and not having the commute everyday will release some of the stress. I may have to get a little job just to make sure that I keep myself from letting inertia set in.
Yes, those people can be a problem. I recommend getting those people out of your life and keeping them far, far away. I think that more and more people out there are all about drams. If there is no real drams, they are sure to create it. "Those" meaning the same people who watch all this contrived drama crap on TV.
Stay active, have people around you and in your life. I don't think that I could ever personally retire. First of all, I can't afford to. Second, I wouldn't want to. I don't play golf and I don't like not having a sense of purpose in my daily life.
My job of operating the day to day business of our small motel, means that I am here, 24/7. But, if you have seen any of my posts in the Post Photos Of Your Systems Rooms Here, thread. I have made things very comfortable for myself and my regular guests here. Because of all of that, I don't mind being here at all.
We have some more major resort oriented condominiums being built directly across the street from our property. An unfinished "box" (meaning no kitchen or bath build-out), starts at about 1.5 million and goes to to around 10-12 million. And that is not counting all of the other expenses.
But, for all of their money, the have a thousand times more restrictions on their way of life than I have.
I can sit on my sofa and play my stereo as loud as I want to any time of the day or night. I don't need anybody's approval to do so.
I stay within the law, meet all of my obligations and lead my life exactly how I want to lead it. There is not a person on this planet who tells me what to do. I bring in all of my own income and I pay all of my bills. I have no long term obligations to account to and all of my current bills are paid on time. I don't own or use credit cards, I only deal in cash. If I don't have the money, I don't buy something. So, no bills to worry about.
I select my own guests, if I have any issues with anyone, I refund any prepaid monies that I may have received and let them find lodging that is more appropriate for their lifestyle's than here, on our premises.
Since most adults represent unneeded drama to me, I keep most of these people away from me. However, I don't have any issues watching children, it's the adults that I can't manage.
Here is a child that I used to watch back in 2016 and 2017, her name is Abbi.
[PICTURE OF THAT GIRL AGAIN]
I used to watch her, while her mother worked long 12-14 hour shifts at night. If you are looking to stay young. Have children around, the responsibilities will keep you young and on top of things. Back in those days, I used to watch three other children, from two different sets of single parents. I find that given the proper circumstances, children are naturally happy, adults, not so much. Children that have not been damaged by society are very positive in their outlook on life in general. Adults are generally quite a bit more pessimistic, in this regard.
Start off by getting control of your life, rid yourself of unnecessary and unwanted everyday stress, eat well, make an effort to move your life forward, in a positive manner and many things will begin to fall into place for you and your health and well being.
