Yesterday I visited a local auto parts store to visually look at some molded hoses.
I am working on a custom project so I needed to visually search the stock because I do not know and application where the part I need could be looked up...Heck I don't even know if the part exists.
Anyway, I am in the parts isles behind the counter looking through the hoses. I am the only customer in the store.
The two guys working the store appear to be in their young 20's in age, and they are bitching about A-hole bosses who have treated them poorly.
One guy is telling a tale of woe that pretty much sums up the entire conversation, at least the ten minutes worth I heard anyway.
He is angry for being fired and upset the boss was so unfair and unreasonable.
You see, he had this job. A job that was located across town. Probably a 40 mile one way trip that did take him into heavy traffic every day. Well, according to his version he was required to be at work by 7:30am, but he arrived at around 8:30 because of the heavy traffic.
After a few days being late he had a meeting with the boss who asked why he was late so often.
The guy explained his plight and the boss, unreasonably, said "Why don't you leave earlier so you can get to work on time?"
The guy bitched to his friend that "I'm not getting up at 6 just so I can get to work at 7:30."
"They should just let me get there when I get there". "Why does he have to be such a dick?"
His friend chimed in with his personal version of basically the same story from a different employer.
The statements, complaints, and comments towards the employers all placed the two guys as the victim of unreasonable expectations, rules, and limitations.
I really wanted to chime in and say, "A basic tenet of employment revolves around agreeing to be to work on time."
I held my tongue, paid for a part I found that may work, and left shaking my head in my mind...incidentally the part did not fit, dang it.

Another example of why more young people need to get some discipline into their lives. The military can help, but honestly I learned the value of getting to work on time by the age of 15.

I from the age of 18 I used to get up at 5.56am to go 35 miles to work. Never once failed to wake up or get to work on time.
Did that for 7 years.
22 years later...I still wake up at 5.56am (give or take a minute) at least once or twice a week.
