I Am Frankie is nothing but a Small Wonder Rip Off!
AceFrehleyJr:
This new show I Am Frankie on Nick is just a two-bit copy of legendary 80s sit-com Small Wonder! Scientist invents female robot and tries to keep it a secret in spite of nosy neighbors / kids attempting to discover the robots secret. Vikki the robot should sue!
Oatsdead:
That's VICI - get it straight!
AceFrehleyJr:
Ha! Youre right! It was an acronym for something!!!
Vidiot:
Nowadays, it could be a #Me Too moment. :sigh:

I've been watching I Am Frankie (IAF) and have enjoyed it so far, although I haven't watched much of the current season...yet. I do agree that it bares a similarity to Small Wonder as far as the premise goes. To me the main differences are the sense of danger in IAF and the difference between the characters of VICI and Frankie.
In Small Wonder it seemed that there would be very little real consequences if VICI's true identity was revealed. For her creator VICI was basically just a proof of concept and hiding the truth about VICI is part of the test. In IAF there is a very real danger (from EGG, WARPA, and a fellow scientist) that casts a shadow over the entire show.
To me the significant difference between VICI and Frankie (and why I think IAF is a better show) is that VICI is basically a non-character (totally reactive with no personality) while Frankie has developed into person of her own, going from a passive robot into a more "human" person, and even becoming assertive in the later episodes. They also reveal why her creator was so concerned about Frankie going out of control (the reason was hinted at in the first episode and mentioned throughout the series).

Why? Is someone sexually assaulting the robot?
PaulWTF:
Well, it has to be better than the last 10 or so years of Spongebob...
AceFrehleyJr:
The OG! ...or should it be OR!

Small Wonder was really just a rip-off of My Living Doll:

"Voice Input Child Identicant".
Hilarious that they then call her "Vicki" in the credits. Such is a incompetence of "Small Wonder" that they couldn't even get their own characters' names correct!

From what I understand and just confirmed via Wikipedia, Howard Leeds, the producer of Small Wonder, was also the producer for My Living Doll.
