The best thing in Two Lane Blacktop is the Chevy. Nothing's better than Warren Oates. I love that damn movie.

Two Lane Blacktop is the only reason I cannot bring myself to completely despise James Taylor. Every time I am at the supermarket and am assaulted by his whiny mom jeans music, my gut reaction revulsion is immediately tempered by that voice in my head saying, "But ... Two Lane Blacktop! There is no denying his greatness in that role." Similarly, Bad Timing redeems Art Garfunkel. Absolutely. Art Garfunkel's performance in Bad Timing is amazing. That movie doesn't get enough love, but it's one of Roeg's best.

Garfunkel was also quite good in That Carnal Knowledge, even if it's more of a supporting role.

My vote still goes to the Chevy.

My vote still goes to the Chevy. As great as Warren Oates, James Taylor and Dennis Wilson are in that film (and they are), ultimately my vote goes to Laurie Bird. She was utterly fantastic in that. Weirdly, it just dawned on me that Laurie Bird is the tragic link between Two Lane Blacktop and Art Garfunkel. Look her up if you don't know what I am talking about.
Anyway, Two Lane Blacktop just might be the most perfectly cast film ever made, Chevy included.
Laurie Bird, is she "The Girl"?

Sorry, boys... That car (a Chevy?) is fugly as hell. JT & DW’s coolness factor would have gone up by a factor of 10 had they been driving a Mustang instead. (Of course, if they happened to be Steve McQueen or Tania Mallet, just posing with the car would have sufficed.)
