Max. number of songs from 1 album that should be included on GH album? When compiling a greatest hits/best of album, in your opinion, what do you think is the maximum number of songs that should be culled from any 1 studio album? (examples: the US release of Michael Jackson's Number Ones included 6 songs from Bad; The Essential Michael Jackson [2CD US edition] included 7 songs from Thriller, 8 from Bad and 7 from Dangerous; Fleetwood Mac's 2CD The Very Best Of included 9 songs from Rumours... do you think that is too many?) In my opinion, if it is a 1-disc compilation, I don't think any more than 4 songs ( maybe 5) should be included from any one album, and if it's 2 or more discs, 7 songs would probably be the most I would include. 2 but All Things Must Pass gets 3 for being a double album Generally 2 or 3 at the most, depending on how many albums there are. A greatest hits album should include top songs from all eras of a band. If too many songs from one album are included you should just buy that album. If it's more than 33% of the album, then it's probably too many. With that Thriller reference in the first post, that's 7/9 songs. That's ridiculous. If you enjoy the compilation then what incentive is there to go and buy Thriller as an actual album? You're only getting two extra songs.
