I know very little about Van Morrison, but he strikes me as the type who wouldn't mind having his fans die off.

I know very little about Van Morrison, but he strikes me as the type who wouldn't mind having his fans die off. I saw him in Vegas on New Years eve fifteen-twenty years ago, and he stormed off stage at 11:55 because he was annoyed by the enthusiasm of the crowd. The venue didn't even have a chance to drop all the balloons and whatnot they had prepared. He hates his fans.

Everything I’ve read about him suggests that he’s somewhere on the spectrum.

A friend who used to be in a band says that he once saw Van refuse to get out of the limo that drove him all the way to the stage entrance at Glastonbury until someone found a rug or something to cover the small portion of mud between the car and the stage.

Them concert from 66: "I was there that night, and the show ended abruptly when Van Morrison started beating up his band, and walked off. " "I was at the Modesto shows. Hung out after the first show with “Snoopy”(Alban Pfisterer), the drummer for Love. Near the end of the 2nd show, Van was wanting the band to “Give me some soul”. They kept starting Gloria and he kept on wanting “Some Soul”. Finally, upset, he nailed the organ player in the head with the mic stand!!! The curtain kinda dropped and that was it…Great show." mercedmusic.wordpress.com/2010/06/01/them-modesto-july-1966-program/

My favourite Van Morrison story is when he got to meet Chet Baker, his idol. Baker invited Morrison to jam, and threw him out shortly afterward. "That's not singing, that's fucking shouting. Get out!"

I wish he would shout instead than grunting like old turd his whole career since 1968. Sad truth is that Angry Young Them LP kill any Van Morrison solo LP. Someone castrated him on the way to New York in 67 to record Brown Eyed Girl.

And 3 minutes of Mystic Eyes kills anything from Astral Weeks and Moondance combined

I can't detect many simularities between Dylan and Van, Van is on his own totally. I like Astral Weeks but can't stand smooth jazz of Moondance or any subsequent albums save for maybe one-two odd songs like Listen To The Lion. The guy had monster voice with which he could had fronted band like Stooges in late 60's and blows Iggy away by miles or front band like Led Zeppelin. Instead we had get appalling shit like Brown Eyed Girl, Moondance, Tupelo Honey etc.
Them was blowing away any R&B competition in 64-65. Early singles and Angry Young Them was extremely savage even by Pretty Things/Stones standards. Then it all suddenly went away

At the risk of pushing this thread into SHiTE territory, he did know how to best utilise his voice for about two years in the mid-70s when he did the Caledonian Soul Orchestra stuff, and It’s Too Late To Stop Now has some exciting moments when he’s leading a call and response with the band (insert usual disclaimers here).
I saw him at a festival a couple of years ago, and he still has most of his voice and a slick band, but it was strangely passionless.

I think there are three or four cds of quality Van material spread across some 40 odd albums. I say this as an ex-Van obsessive.
