Didn't know Bowie recorded it at that time. UFO was joint run by John Hopkins and Joe Boyd, then Hopkins got sent to jail for possession of cannabis, after which time Boyd probably ran it without him. He was an interesting character, who'd been involved in some other counter-cultural events, including the 1965 poetry event at the Royal Albert Hall (where Ginsberg and others performed), and International Times (underground newspaper). He was also a photographer. His obit. is here if you're interested. It's well worth looking at: John HopkinsI know John, i was briefly in touch with him before his death.

Extract from a reader's letter in this month's Mojo magazine:
"Regarding the interview in Mojo 299, methinks Paul McCuntney protests his working-class credentials a little too much, evidenced by a couple of the most obvious kinds of subconscious slips in his wording. I've noted some major inconsistencies between his stated views and the way they're verbalised: 'I am working-class. THEY'RE funny, THEY'RE clever and THEY work.' If Maccunt genuinely believes he is working class, wouldn't the correct pronoun here automatically be WE'RE funny...etc? As in, 'I like the chimps at the tea party. They're funny but I certainly don't consider that we're part of the same social group' "
Much as I agree with the writer's sentiments, any implied upward mobility in Sir Macca's choice of words is surely just a bad case of cognitive dissonance on Paulie's part - because as any Brit non-Scouser will tell you, there is no such thing as a non-working class Liverpudlian.

It took a #1 US Album for Paul, an amazing Imagine box set, the upcoming amazing looking White Album box set and now the shock/joy/pleasure of seeing Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway getting the Archive treatment to bring me out of SHF retirement....lol My wallet is hurting but of course I ordered the $400 71-73 Wings box just yesterday.........Merry Christmas to myself!

That’s not Macca, it’s a wax replica. You can plainly see his face is melting.

That Sharpton is a piece of garbage. Macca should be embarrassed to take a photo with him. Tawanna Bradley anyone?

Why is Macca wearing a jacket two sizes too large? (Look at the sleeve length.) Is he shrinking or was it laundry day? You be the judge.

He borrowed it from Tawanna Bradley. Then again, it could have been one of Sharpton’s old ones.

Someone bumped an old thread about that wretched McCartney special from 1973. Leave it to maccafan to put his deranged and unrequited love for Paulie on full display: Loved the whole thing, McCartney's versatility on full display, it was really exciting to see Wings rocking out! I keep seeing that the show was so called cheesy and embarrassing, such thoughts never even crossed my mind I just enjoyed the music. I remember thinking how great it was that the McCartney's had such a great marriage! Some classic songs in the show, songs that over the years have become more and more dear to my heart! My Love is such a fantastic love song, has been covered by so many artist. This whole show should be released on blu-ray!

My Love is such a fantastic love song, has been covered by so many artist. This whole show should be released on blu-ray! I already admitted somewhere on here that I tried (and failed) to get that big Wings box, but I did get the individual sets, and among the stuff included is the special. One thing that really stuck out to me was how the orchestral arrangements sounded. Whether you like Wings or not, George Martin and Richard Hewson knew how to get a good arrangement. Whoever did them here gives the songs a cheap, bargain-priced-covers-album vibe. Then there's the live performance, featuring the sound of an excited and adoring audience. Not sure where they got that sound from, because the actual audience seems pretty damn tame at best, and at times near comatose. The next McCartney special, which was never aired and only finally released in 2010, One Hand Clapping, is much better. It's all live-in-the-studio performances. It's all about the music baby, ya dig? No montage of various Liverpudlian layfolk singing bits of Beatles songs. The best part of the 73 special by a wide margin is the segment with Paul on guitar singing various songs while Linda takes photographs (on a Leica, perhaps?) There's 40-odd minutes of raw audio from that segment on bootleg, and it's probably more interesting than the actual special. Actually, it feels kinda modern. All you need is Paul in that same setting answering questions and telling stories and you'd have a good GQ video. The Beatles invented modern celebrity videos!

Solo artists who surpassed their former/current band(s)Paul McCartney (commercially, and quality-wise) Michael Nesmith (quality-wise) John Fogerty (quality-wise, and maybe commercially?)
