shit that was supposed to read 'periodS'! What is your wife's opinion of Zappa and King Crimson? Unsurprisingly, she can't stand either, and she has fairly eclectic tastes, ya know, for a woman. I like the 'popular' Zappa stuff (Joe's Garage, Overnight Sensation, Apostrophe etc.), not into much else. King Crimson, I like Discipline and Red, that's it My wife adores XTC, and tolerates Crimson enough to have seen them in concert with me. Since we’ve had to spend the last nine months sharing an office space, it’s been interesting to see where our tastes diverge considering we got together because we were into a lot of the same bands.

There are very few gigs my wife refuses to go to (mainly Groove Metal and Thrash Metal stuff), she loves Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree and even found herself enjoying a Steve Hackett gig (neither of us paid for that one, I was shooting/reviewing it). Our tastes do diverge and rejoin at various points along the line though, makes for a more interesting life than us just strictly liking the same music as each other, or her not liking music at all (like all true SHite wives, in the rare instances where they have a wife or significant other).

Both Samla and Stormy Six were RIO bands. In that they were members of that loose organization. This is years before "RIO" became some sort of formulaic genre invented by prog nerd fans. I actually downloaded most of the Samla stuff from redacted last year. The earlier recordings I suppose are derivative of Zappa with I guess is some Swedish folk music element. They really don't get interesting until later, when they change guitarists (getting rid of the guy who looks uncannily like Zappa) and change the spelling of their name to Zamla Mammaz Manna. The double record they did with one album being some twisted version of Schlager songs and the other being free improvisation is probably their best. Stormy Six were a Marxist Italian group that combines a lot of stuff: some jazz, some psychedelic rock, some Italian pop song approach, and lots of Communist agit-prop (in Italian — of which I don't understand a word). I have no idea if the circus music thing I hear in this is deliberate or just something a lot of Italian pop music reminds me of. I think that Stormy Six were trying to be more of populist band. I think they were big on the underground free concert scene — like an Italian Hawkwind or Gong, fueled by Marx and Engels rather than LSD. Samla/Zamla I have no idea what space they occupied in Sweden. I'm guessing they didn't sell many records.
You speak Chinese like a native.
Like I said - a fine line.

Spoiler Alert #2 : not "busting" anybody. Trust me, I could out-nerd (or need) any of you with industrial strength earmuffs on. Just making sure that mirror stays hanging on the wall nice and straight.
