That dude talks about damned near everything that ever happened more than the new record he's reviewing. I gave up on the chapter about Paul McCartney.

And now they're moaning about how Jagger's vocals are actually 'AI'.
And of course Monkees avatar knobhead INTV7 who has probably never been near a mixing desk in his life says

I can hear that shit from a mile away. There’s no auto tune. If there is it’s minimal.
They’re obsessed with AI

Genuine question. Has the Quietus and its writers always been that tedious? Do they consider that good writing, or are they just desperate for people who can write and that's the best they can get?

El Pais investigated Autotunegate last month. english.elpais.com/culture/2023-09-18/the-truth-about-mick-jaggers-autotune-in-the-rolling-stones-new-song.htmlThe weird thing is that they consider as a reference poats from SH.tv. I'm quite tempted to write something to El Pais about the mistake. Also, by the way, the most positive thing I can say on Hackney Diamonds is that it allowed a whole new generation to experience at last what only older fans had been able to live by themselves, the emotion of getting a Rolling Stones album on the day of release, of playing the whole thing back to back, almost as a religious experience and then of saying aloud, "What all the fuss with this mediocre album?" exactly as we did when Bridges to Babylon was released. Sweet Sounds of Heaven is great, there's a couple of fine moments, Jagger is in fine voice, but otherwise it's a Jagger solo album where Richards and Wood play the guitar parts, with an hollow attempt at modernity. Give the current condition of Keith, that may be the best they can do. So, it doesn't tarnish their legacy, but it doesn't bring anything to it either.

Genuine question. Has the Quietus and its writers always been that tedious? Do they consider that good writing, or are they just desperate for people who can write and that's the best they can get? We live in an age where is now easier to listen to the actual album than it is to find a review, so the point of someone describing in detail what the music sounds like, or even a 'this sound a bit like so-and-so and it my opinion worth listening to if you like that, but it's not quite as good as their last album', is kinda pointless. So we might as well have essays on whatever it is the writer's PhD subject/whatevers fashionable these days is bolted onto the album review somehow, somebody might like it. Or just spend 1,000 words to say 'It's brickwalled which takes from the excitement from the music'. Whatever good for you.

"Too many long clean notes, and again, I'm like hearing someone drumming like Charlie Watts."
Tell me about it Martin Popoff, you nailed it there!

Not only was Hackney Diamonds art concept bad, the entire packaging of the album was bad. You open up the gatefold. What do you get? "ROLLING STONES" in this Hackney Diamonds font. I mean, really? No photos of these new sessions? Photos of Charlie? So bizarre. I like the album very much, but the art left SO much to be desired. And the info sheet had a font size of -3 I think. We didn't even get a book with the vinyl. All of it was crazy.

Hackney Diamonds debuts at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart, behind Blink-182's new album One More Time at #1 in its first week, and Drake's For All The Dogs at #2 in its third week on the chart. Tay-Tay didn't even re-release one of her albums this week.
Hackney Diamonds is walloping One More Time on the SHite forum, with a 562 page thread versus a 1 page thread.
