As long as we're unleashing our inner Shite on the RIP thread, Monkees Headquarters is infinitely better than Sgt. Pepper. +1 Sgt. Pepper was a triumph of style over substance. Revolver was the better album.

Clearly we are going soft, and I'm still hanging my head for loving OCS, but I general appreciation/respect for The Monkees was not something I was expecting around these parts.

Anyone who truly loves music has to tip their hat to the Monkees as a group or collective or whatever they really were. I’ll take Stepping Stone over fucking Hello Goodbye any day. Mickey Dolenz had one of the best voices in rock music. But you also have to know where to draw the line. They have their share of pure drivel, as most bands do.

As films go, I think Head is as good as A Hard Day's Night is, and it's infinitely better than Help!, Magical Mystery Tour and Let It Be. As cinema and as songs, the "Porpoise Song" segment that Susan mentioned and Davy Jones and Tony Basil's "Daddy's Song" scene are absolutely stellar. A film of me staring at a wall is better than Let It Be.

When I get that urge to hear some sixties pop hits, the Monkees just aren't what I go to. I have nothing at all against them. When I was in 8th grade, I listened to CBS.fm everyday. For those who don't know, it was New York's oldies station. By that time, the format was sixties and seventies music (before that it featured 50's music and had stuff like a Doo-Wop hour every Sunday but that was gone already by 2004). I heard plenty of Monkees. Mickey Dolenz even became the host of the morning block. On the day of his 100th episode, the station, without warning, fired every DJ. I had no idea what was going on until late that night when got a hint from their Am counterpart, and then there was a story in the newspaper the next day (I was spending the weekend with my grandparents, so I didn't have access to the internet.) I was pretty bummed. It was a sort of "day the music died" for me. RIP cbs.fm. The new, DJ-less format Jack fm lasted a couple of years before eventually reverting back. By that point I wasn't listening to the radio anymore. Taking a peek at wikipedia, it seems they've gone from "oldies" to "classic hits" and are more focused on music from the 90's and beyond. Guess you won't find any Monkees on there anymore.

I was going to make a point but then I got lost in my tangent about radio. Anyway, Monkees are fine but I don't seek 'em out when I'm in the mood to look up some sixties stuff on youtube. Just like when I'm in the mood for Motown, 90 percent of what I wind up looking up is the Four Tops. I got nothing against the Supremes, for instance, and would enjoy them if they were playing but I never purposefully search for them.

I take it that STeVE will refund all of the donations he recently collected? That’s probably what those 20,000 emails “he” sent were about ...

So, will Rush Limbaugh kick off before or after Biden gets sworn in?
What say you?

Well, earlier this year, Trump bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom upon him (thereby cheapening the award). He’s also has terminal, stage-4 lung cancer, so it’s just a matter of time before he becomes worm chow.
