I've worked with millennial women like that. I've also worked with gen x men like that. And everything in between.
But of course, if a man gave him the same issues, he wouldn't blame it on him being a man. But because it's a woman, well, as far as he's concerned that's the issue right there!
It's very interesting for me where I work now. It's traditionally been a boy's club. With a few exceptions, most of the women have all been hired in the past six or seven years and still make up less than a quarter of the workforce. And none in management. Now, the young guys who all got hired along with them don't really seem to mind. They all intermingle. But otherwise, the women are very much "othered." I get to compare this with my last job. Same industry, but at that plant, women were being hired regularly since the early 90s. So when I arrived, they more or less made up half the workforce, and only a minority of guys even remembered the boy's club days. We had female supervisors and managers. Most people ate together and socialized. It was easy to pick out the few sexist guys and such attitudes were looked down upon.
I won't even get into all the hypocrisy about the "young people." I was always told that I'm an outlier for being a good worker compared to other people my age. There is certainly an issue though, and it is generational. Most people my age are told to go to college. I bucked the trend, dropped out, and got a job. People who got a degree are less likely to take a job like mine because they feel like they wasted their time in college. That does put the company in the awkward position of having to hire people who fall a bit short of the standard. It's my understanding that they simply can't attract more people to even apply, something they explicitly have shared with us in regards to mechanics. A thirty dollar plus hour union job and they are literally begging for applicants. The only one they've gotten since I've been there? One guy brought his son in.
And that kinda loops around to the millennial women I worked with, early on in my working days in another career. And a good amount of them fit the description he-who-must-not-be-named makes. But then, why? Because they did grunt work. And the ones who actually did their job would get promoted to better positions or leave for a better job. And so the lower positions, the one we had to interact with, were filled with the lowest-skilled or lowest-motivated.
That may be who he is getting to interact with. The better employees are probably dealing with far more important tasks then his reissues. Although it could just as likely be that they are good workers and he and his label are low priority.
Pardon the tangent. But stuff like this just sets me off.
On the other hand, a woman gave birth to this asshole so maybe women really are the root of the problem?
