Nowadays I think you'd have to do something pretty crass to be refused permission... like for example you want to use Give Peace A Chance in a commercial for peas but you plan on changing it to Give peas a chance. Of course Yoko would say no. But then you'd add the additional info that you wanted Yoko to appear in the commercial dressed as a pea... and then she'd declare it a work of genius!

Weakest Link: John Lennon & Yoko Ono - "Milk and Honey" Round 1I for one don't dislike Yoko at all. If her songs were better than John's, they wouldn't be voted off....simple as that. I think that's unrealistic given both the incredibly high regard with which so many on the SHF hold John and how much so effin' many hate Yoko. I think Yoko did have some "DF" songs that topped John's... but they still got the boot before any of the 7 John songs. It's not a fair fight, and that's why I strongly considered dropping the Yoko songs from this WL series. Their fate was preordained. But this isn't a case where one can clearly state that JL's songs are objectively superior to YO's and that's why hers will go first - or went first in the case of "DF" years back. Well, THIS guy can say John's are objectively superior, because his aren't marred by her attempts at vocalizing. So there's that. "Objectively superior" doesn't apply to art. You added the modifier "clearly." And yeah, I can clearly say that John's work is objectively superior. There may be some that disagree, but that doesn't make them right. I'm not sure the phrase 'objectively superior' applies to anything, let alone art. I'd be interested in hearing of a valid example. 'Joey Self is objectively inferior'? Whatever people say about Oatsdad, he at least has a bit of intelligence. Those weakest link threads though - fucking dismal. Can't get my head around why anyone would participate.

Ah yes, Yoko Ono's attempts at vocalizing. I can't even in good conscience call what she does on "Your Hands" to be singing. Absolutely abysmal.
give me a fucking break

Nobody likes to hear this anymore, but John was usually more generous to the other Beatles when Yoko wasn't in the room. Yoko and the Beatles (especially Paul) were mutually exclusive. Doubling down on The Ballad of John and Yoko meant deriding them in order to elevate her, the basic gist of that story being that John was a lesser person and artist until his miraculous transubstantiation through Yoko Ono. The difference is obvious in that 73-74 separation period where he suddenly mellows on the Beatles.
